Was rescued from the streets of Santa Barbara de Heredia. A big guy, this gentle giant is only one year old and were it not for the selfless act of a human, he most likely would have died on the street.
Rescued by a caring dog lover, Pinto was brought to the Refugio because of his sad state: he was emaciated, a bag of bones really, with eyes almost entirely closed due to a severe infection, his body covered with mange.
Over the three weeks he has been with us now (May 15th) he has responded extremely well to the medical attention provided by our vets; he has gained considerable weight, his coat and eyes have improved. Yet, he still has a ways to go to get to the 100% healthy stage.
Pinto is available for adoption but because of his (large) size and skin condition, he may remain with us at the Refugio’s animal shelter for sometime. He is extremely affectionate, playful and social with other dogs. He awaits patiently for his new loving home and human(s).
The right adopter would need to have a big yard (fenced) to allow Pinto to run and play. And they would have to continue to treat his mange with regular baths and application of medication to his eyes. Training would also be required to manage such a large animal.
This gentle giant needs a compassionate and loving human worthy of such a big-hearted dog to give him a second chance at life… filled with patience and love. Until that time, we will give him all that he requires to continue to heal.
