June 5, 2011 – We are grateful and excited to announce our first Friends of Refugio donation to help animals in Costa Rica through AHPPA fundraiser.  Many thanks to NT for her generosity of $150…a great kick-off to helping us reach our goal to raise $40,000 USD.

AHPPA was the first animal shelter in Costa Rica; it began twenty years ago as the only refuge for animals in this country.  Since its humble beginnings, it has expanded with a full veterinary clinic, implemented two very effective programs to care for and reduce the proliferation of street dogs, and provide education and low-cost or no-cost vaccinations to local pet owners throughout Costa Rica.

The goal of this fundraiser, Friends of Refugio, is to continue to provide services to help animals in Costa Rica.  100% of  funds raised will assist in their care including sponsoring the large number of dogs, cats and other small animals to cover costs of  housing, food and medical attention. In addition, our shelter structure requires updating and improvements.  Medical supplies and new equipment are paramount to providing quality medical care.
