A.H.P.P.A. ~ AnimalShelterCostaRica.org has begun its animal shelter fundraiser campaign, Friends of Refugio, for the purpose of raising monies to assist the shelter with its needs in helping the animals of Costa Rica.

Our goal is to raise $40,000 USD by the end of 2012.

Although the Refugio has come a long way since its humble beginnings twenty years ago the facility is in need of improvements, new equipment and construction. As our services continue to help the needs of Costa Rica’s animals – those poor animals from the streets as well as locally owned pets – our facility is in need of a bit of constructive surgery to keep up with demand.

As the funding comes in, thanks to donations from loyal supporters and Friends of Refugio, our intent is to purchase and implement the following:

  • Interior resurfacing of dogs’ housing
  • Large X-ray machine (for larger dogs)
  • Portable Ultrasound machine
  • Cauterization machine
  • Construction of  “Wall of Love” as an income resource; patrons will purchase handmade ceramic tiles in memory of their pets for display.

If you hear, read or learn about others wanting to “do something” to help the animals in Costa Rica, we ask that you share, tell, write, and post about Friends of Refugio animal fundraiser and direct them to this website or to our Facebook page. Together we can continue with our Spay & Neutering programs, adoptions, care and shelter, animal rescues, medical emergencies, clinical care and improvements to the facility.

Our donations page offers several different options including our Sponsor a Dog program, where by your once a month donation while help offset the costs of food, vaccinations, spay or neuter procedures and medical needs.  In addition to dogs available for adoption, there are many dogs in this category who are older and thus less likely to be adopted; these dogs reside in our Sanctuary to live their life safe, off the streets and well cared for.

Any amount will help…$5 to $50 to $500.  To keep our friends and supporters updated we will be providing a progress report on the website as the Friends of Refugio fundraiser campaign gets underway.
